Booster and additional dose

As of February 15, 2022, the validity of vaccination certificates (in the area of the Czech Republic) will be shortened to nine months. The validity after revaccination by the booster dose is not currently limited. Thus, after the booster dose, you will be able to use your vaccination certificate without limitation.

Preventive booster dose

Who can get revaccinated

Revaccination by the 3rd dose is possible for people who are older than 12 years old and have at least 5 months after receiving the second dose.

In the case of a single-dose vaccine Janssen, it is possible to get revaccinated after 2 months.

The booster dose is optional and paid for by the healthcare insurance (if you are not a self-payer)

When you can get revaccinated

The revaccination with the booster dose is available since September 20, 2021.

How the revaccination looks like

The day you reach 5 months after the last dose of your vaccination, you will receive a text message or email saying:

CPOJ 32xx28xx22 se muze registrovat na posilujici davku ockovani proti Covid-19. Kontaktujte praktickeho lekare nebo se registrujte na crs.mzcr.cz.

(CPOJ 32xx28xx22 can now register for booster dose vaccination against Covid-19. Contact your GP or register on crs.mzcr.cz.)

Administration of the booster dose (or more precisely getting to the place, where you will be vaccinated) can be done the following ways:

1. Registration at the vaccination center (through Central Reservation System)

As of September 20, it is possible to register for revaccination.

You can make your registration (you are already entitled to get revaccinated and it will be allowed in the near future) at registrace.mzcr.cz. (use this link, the address is not the same as for the basic scheme), or at crs.uzis.cz and use the colored brick with "Vaccination booster dose".

Registration: You type in your telephone number (the one you used for downloading the certificate or for registration before would be the best) and wait for PIN 1 sent in a text message. After its receiving, fill in your personal details including your telephone number, health insurance number, name, and surname. The rest of your personal details are filled automatically in so-called identification. The system knows you got vaccinated more than 5 months ago and can get your booster dose. Next, you can choose a vaccination center, finish the registration, and wait for PIN 2 that you will later use for logging into the reservation of your booster dose date (on rezervace.mzcr.cz).

Self-payers: People who are self-payers can register on the registration page for self-payers.

2. General practitioners

As of September 20, it is possible to make an independent revaccination appointment with your GP.

3. Vaccination centers without registration

It is also possible to use such centers (you can find the complete list with the “Bez registrace a rezervace” (Without reservation or registration) filter on ockoreport.uzis.cz), where you get the booster dose if it is more than 5 months since receiving the second dose, or 2 months since receiving the Janssen vaccine.

4. Telephonically on Infoline 1221

What you get revaccinated with

You will be revaccinated by mRNA vaccines i.e., Comirnaty vaccines (Pfizer/BioNTech) and Spikevax (Moderna). Other vaccines will not be used for revaccination. A person that has been vaccinated for example with the Vaxzevria vaccine (AstraZeneca), will be revaccinated with one of the mRNA vaccines as well.

People that received the first two doses of the Comirnaty vaccine will be revaccinated with the Comirnaty vaccine once again.

In the age category 12-17 (including), the revaccination will be possible only by the Comirnaty vaccine (Pfizer).

Vaccination certificate validity

A certificate about the booster dose is valid right after its issue.

The vaccination certificate is valid 14 days after the first dose in case of a single-dose vaccine (Janssen), or after the second dose in case of other vaccines. After that, it is necessary to get revaccinated by the booster dose so that your vaccination certificate would be valid again.

The Tečka application is also depending on the validity of your vaccination certificate. Nevertheless, if you are going abroad, read up on the validity conditions in the given country, for example at Travelling.

In the Tečka application, you can also see the record of the booster dose. If it does not, make sure you are not blocking out invalid certificates - you can find the button for switching in the upper right corner of the application, above the list of certificates.

Why get vaccinated by the booster dose?

It has been proved that as the time progresses after the vaccination, there is a graduate decrease in the effectiveness of the protection and therefore also a higher probability of getting infected. By this decrease of protection are mostly and sooner at risk older people and people with immune disorders or chronic diseases (typical also for other vaccinations). The booster dose significantly increases the protection against getting infected more intensely and faster than the previous doses.

Receiving the booster dose very quickly reinforces the protection even against new coronavirus variants (such as the Delta variant) that have not been yet known at the time of vaccinations development but are still spreading
worldwide. The antibody level is not equivalent to the vaccination protection.

Additional dose

Who can get revaccinated

People that suffer from:

  • moderate and severe immunosuppression,
  • moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency,
  • advanced or untreated HIV infection or
  • a condition requiring immunosuppressive therapy.

When you can get revaccinated

It is already possible to receive this dose provided that it is at least 4 weeks after finishing the basic immunization schedule i.e., at least 4 weeks after the first dose in case of Janssen vaccine or after the second dose in case of other vaccines.

How the revaccination looks like

This way of revaccination needs to be sufficiently substantiated by scientific results. You can get the additional dose only with a recommendation from a physician specializing in one of the above-mentioned conditions.

What you get revaccinated with

You will be revaccinated by mRNA vaccines i.e., Comirnaty vaccines (Pfizer/BioNTech) and Spikevax (Moderna). Other vaccines will not be used for
revaccination. A person that has been vaccinated for example with Vaxzevria vaccine (AstraZeneca), will be revaccinated with one of the mRNA vaccines as well.

Vaccination certificate validity

Vaccination certificate validity has not been altered i.e., the certificate is valid 14 days after the first dose in case of single-dose vaccine (Janssen) or the second dose in case of other vaccines. This validity is the same for the Tečka application. If you are going abroad, read up on the validity conditions in the given country, for example at Travelling.

In the Tečka application, you can also see the record of the additional dose.
